Educational Management of Honorary Degrees and Academic Positions

        1. Background

BOU  is  a  higher  education  institution  in  religion  aiming to provide teaching and

learning to monks and the general public. The university emphasizes goodness, beauty, right livelihood, and community and social development. It is a non-profit institution. Applicants will donate to support education as they should. BOU offers education at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral levels.

 

         2. Administration and Personnel

    • The administrative structure includes the University Council, President, CEO, and

Rector (Rector). There are Vice-Rectors for States, countries, various affairs, provinces. There are also Assistants to the Rector at the city, province, and department

levels.

  • BOU has a service center in Thailand because it is a university established by Thai people in USA and want to open educational opportunities for Thai people and ASEAN people as well. Therefore, BOU plans to appoint a management team in other countries in ASEAN too.
  • BOU is a volunteer institution. Therefore, there is no hiring and payment of salaries for executives and faculty members around the world. And the institution welcomes volunteers around the world as administrators and faculty members of the institution.

 

          3. Education Management

               3.1 Bachelor’s Degree

  • The student must present “one paper on the subject”
  • If the student has a clear result of work, has a career with income that is acceptable. He/she is required to present the project and spend about 1 semester creating new work

to be eligible to take the exam.

  • If the student does not have a clear result, he/she is required to choose the project topic and continue to study until successful to be eligible to take the exam, which takes at least 1 year.
  • Graduated 12th grade (High School) or if over 30 years old can come and request to transfer knowledge equivalent to high school and then have a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Choose a course in accordance with the interest of the students by considering the project title.
  • Let the faculty of the university follow up on the academic results of the student and arrange the examination periodically until completion.
  • Write a thesis for presentation using the university form.

 

          3.2 Master’s Degree

  • Students must have completed a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Students must have clear work results, i.e. having a career, income, or having other administrative services which are acceptable. Therefore, they can apply. If they still have no work, once enrolled, they must create the work to be clear first for no less than 1 year.
  • Those who already have work, after applying, it takes about 1 semester to plan the work and make their own work better. Students will gather work information, analyze information and report the successful results. Therefore, they will have the right to come to the graduation exam.
  • Courses or a branch that students have graduated in must be in accordance with the interest of the students by considering the research title.
  • Students must allow the faculty members of the university to follow up on their academic results and arrange the examination periodically until completion.
  • The research topic begins with the words … Factors (or Success Factors of …) ……or Factors that affect ……. et
  • For Master’s Degree, students are required to focus on their work, not on the work of other people, not  going   to collect other information or collecting questionnaires

from other people, to gather other people’s knowledge, but to focus on their own work. And it must be a qualitative research.

  • The presentation of the thesis topic of the students, which is the analysis of the work, has 3 Chapters as follows:
  • Chapter 1 The significance of the story or the history, inspiration, problems encountered and the subject that needs to be analyzed, considering from a broad principles first to small points or details.
  • Chapter 2 Analysis of work, presenting the story of what students do, what to do, how to do, what the result is (or include Chapter 4 of the Bachelor’s term paper to present), the length of this Chapter is about 20 pages with illustrations, and no need to refer to the theory, academic principles, or other people’s work because the students are pioneers of the wor It is the work that is conducted as self-learning, a study from their own real life (which only takes 1 semester because it will be considered as a lifetime work). It explains what are the goodness and success of the students in this work.
  • Chapter 3 Summary of study results. It answers research topic, questions and objectives. If we call it “The success factor of … “, it must answer questions on the factors of student business success: How many factors? About 5-9 answers in each section and explain each one. There are some examples. This must be clear, and not be written in a floating manner. There may be issues of future suggestions or additional consideratio

(9) Master degree presentation requires examination or listen to the presentation of at least 3 people and the work must be published in the journal of the BOU or other journals.

 

          3.3 Doctoral Degree

  • Students must have completed a Master’s Degree.
  • Students must have clear results of work, e. having a career, income, or having management work. Various services are accepted .Therefore, they can apply. If they still no work, once enrolled, they must create the work to be clear first for no less than 1 year.
  • Those who already have work, after applying, it takes about 1 semester to plan the work and make their own work better. Students will gather work information, analyze information and report the successful results. Therefore, they will have the right to come to the graduation exam.

  • Our university uses the word “Vichak” in Thai or “Realize” in English, not “Research” because our university considers that students must have empirical results

of their work or success, can transfer their knowledge (“Vichak” is to know thoroughly, to know clearly), and then come to research and find out the truth and

come to the conclusion for graduation by focusing on one’s own work, not on the work  of  other  people,  not     going     to  collect  other  information  or  collecting

questionnaires from other people, to gather other people’s knowledge, but to focus on their own work. And it must be a qualitative research.

  • “Vichak”(Realize) is “Nirodha”(Cessation or Realization). Research is just the means or metho Students must come to the exam with Nirodha or Model of Success:

What is the successful model?

  • Presenting the doctoral dissertation, which is a synthesis of achievements. There are 3 Chapters as follows:

             4. Admission for Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees for students must be in accordance with the minimum criteria or donations according to the criteria that the institution supports to provide services to students according to the agreement with students.

 

           5. Requesting an Honorary Degree

Obtaining an honorary degree from Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral levels is

possible.

  • The person who will apply for the Degree must be considered as a commitment to work with the BOU to help support according to the power and according to the

opportunity to help teach, help to lecture, as an exam director or help disseminate the

reputation and guidelines of the BOU.

  • Requesting an honorary Bachelor’s Degree, the person must have  reputation or a local performance at the district level, requesting an honorary Master’s Degree, the

person must have reputation in the city, and requesting an honorary Doctoral Degree,

the person must have the Master’s Degree and must have outstanding work at the regional or national level.

  • The person must submit the resume and work results as attached, and must present the important knowledge that the person has achieved or achieved except for very

prominent and  very important person.

  • Vice-Rector and Board of Directors appointed by the Vice-Rector consider and make the decision to nominate the person for the said degree.
  • The nominee will donate to support the university as appropriate.

 

         6. Requesting Academic Positions

Getting an academic position from the BOU is possible according to the following

criteria:

  • Receiving the Position of Assistant Professor and Associate Professor
  • The applicant must be a regular faculty member of the BOU or a special faculty

member of the BOU or must have a commitment to work and support the work of BOU.

  • Must have a co-teaching result to be assessed as a BOU Examination Committee

member or as a service center of the local BOU in the city or in the district of the university.

  • Must have good academic performance of at least two topics similar to the topic of Ph.D.
  • If he/she is a regular faculty member, the term Assistant Professor and Associate Professor will be applied, if not the term special Assistant Professor and special

Associate Professor will be used.

  • Donate to support university education as appropriate.

 

  • The Position of Professorship
  • Must have been an associate professor of not less than 3 years and if he/she is a regular faculty member, the term Professor with be applied, if not a regular professor

the term special Professor will be used.

  • Must have a co-teaching result to be assessed as a BOU Examination Committee member or as a service center of the local BOU in the city or in the district of the

university.

  • Must have good academic performance of at least two topics similar to the topic of Ph.D.
  • Donate to support education for the university as appropriate.

 

     7. Obtaining the Administrative Position at the Provincial Level or City Level The Vice Rector can propose a person to take the position of an Assistant to the Rector of the province or the city.

 

Nominees must have the will or determination to develop education for monks and novices and for the general public to create goodness and beauty in the local area, and should have work. A person with only intention but nothing has been done should not be nominated for appointment.

 

Applicants should have studied at the doctoral level to have dignity and credit to work. Applicants should donate to the university as appropriate to allow the university to support education as well.
